Donald Dale Hygema

Aug. 14, 1921 - June 3, 1998

BREMEN - Donald Dale Hygema, 76, residing on Riley Road, Bremen, Ind., passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 3, at his residence. Mr. Hygema retired from the Studebaker Corporation and was a self-employed farmer. He had been a lifelong area resident.

 

He was born on Aug. 14, 1921, in Lakeville, Ind., to the late Irvin and Cora (Schalliol) Hygema. Donald was also preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

 

On July 29, 1946, in Rochester, Ind., he married Luella F. Hawkins, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Regena Swan and Rebecca Sue Hygema, both of Bremen, and Lorraine Billisitz of South Bend, Ind.; three sons, Roger Hygema of Bremen, Rodney Hygema of Lakeville and Ronald Hygema of Osceola, Ind.; a stepson, Tommy Wallis of Fort Worth, Texas; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and by three sisters, Erma Miller and Treva Hoffman, both of South Bend, and Fern Feitz of Bremen.

 

Mr. Hygema was a member of the Conservation Club in Lakeville, was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 363 in Lakeville.

 

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 8, at the Palmer Funeral Home in Lakeville. Cremation will take place, with burial at a later date in South Union Cemetery in Nappanee, Ind.
