Luella F. Hygema

Luella F. Hygema, 79, residing on Riley Road, Bremen, Ind., passed away from natural causes at 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 9, in her home. Mrs. Hygema was a homemaker and a farm wife. She also retired from the Former Easy Heat Wire Craft in Lakeville, Ind., after 15 years of employment.

 

On Jan. 4, 1920, in Madison Township, Wyatt, Ind., she was born to the late John and Rosa (Morris) Hawkins. Luella had lived her entire life in our local area.

 

On July 29, 1946, in Rochester, Ind., she married Donald Dale Hygema, who preceded her in death on June 3, 1998. She is survived by three daughters, Regena Swan of Bremen, Rebecca Sue Hygema of Bremen and Lorraine Billisitz of South Bend, Ind.; four sons, Roger Hygema of Bremen, Rodney Hygema of Lakeville, Tommy Wallis of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ronald Hygema of Osceola, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Reed of New Paris, Ind., and Bonnie Reams of Niles, Mich.; and by a brother, Otho Hawkins of Wakarusa, Ind. Luella was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Lakeville.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Rev. Norman Reimer of the Nappanee Missionary Church will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery, Bremen. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. Contributions in memory of Luella F. Hygema may be donated to Hospice of St. Joseph/Marshall County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
