Linden Dale Irvin

SOUTH BEND - Mr. Linden Dale Irvin, 86, of South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness on Saturday morning, Nov. 15, in his home. He was born on Oct. 31, 1911, in North Liberty, Ind., to Floyd and Ethel (Runnels) Irvin.

 

A lifelong area resident, he met and married the former Mary Csaszar on Oct. 16, 1935, in Lydick, Ind. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Nancy Gamble of Granger, Ind., and Linda Lea Kaufmann of Wheaton, Ill.; five grandchildren, Michael L. Gamble of Mishawaka, Ind., Gary L. Gamble of Elkhart, Ind., Sue E. Gamble of Chicago, Ill., Karman K. Morey of Glennellen, Ill., and Nancy L. Boos of Columbia, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Marlene, Linden and Tricia Gamble of Elkhart; and by two sisters and a brother, Lois Sexton of Lydick, Delores Rach of Eau Claire, Mich., and Norris Irvin of South Bend.

 

Mr. Irvin worked as an inspector for the Studebaker Motor Car Company for 33 years before they closed. After closing he worked for A. M. General for 10 years, before retiring as chief salvage inspector. Linden was a 54-year member of Calvary Baptist Church, and was the youngest deacon and also the oldest deacon when he left. He was an active volunteer with the 4H Fair for many years, and also worked with Child Evangelism for many years.

 

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, and burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
