Alice Delores Ivory

SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Alice Delores Ivory, our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, who resided on North Wellington Street, South Bend, passed from this life at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. She was blessed to have lived 77 years. On October 19, 1929, in South Bend, she was born to the union of the late Robert and O'Brien (Imgram) Cobb. As a lifelong area resident, Alice attended the South Bend Public Schools.

 

She and Ethurel P. Ivory Sr. were united in marriage in South Bend. Ethurel preceded her in death on July 11, 1997. For 18 years Mrs. Ivory worked in the medical field at Saint Joseph's Hospital and was also a certified childcare provider. She was awarded a certificate for her outstanding work in the community coordinating child care program. She also earned her certificate from the Hoosier Nannie's Program for her intense training, for the care, nurturing and rearing of young children and their families in the LaSalle Park area. She was a member of the LaSalle Neighborhood Center and Layman Chapel C.M.E. Church where she sang in the choir. Among her favorite things to do was cooking, especially for her children and grandchildren.

 

Family members who survive to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include four daughters, Marilyn (Charles) Easton, Bobbi Parkes and Jacquelyn (Johnnie) Moody, all of South Bend, and Patricia Eileen (Michael) Fisher of Green Bay, WI; four sons, Ethurel P. (Brenda) Ivory Jr., Sheldon R. Ivory and Carlton E. Ivory Sr., all of South Bend, and Keith B. (DeAnn) Ivory Sr. of Grand Rapids, MI; 27 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Cobb of South Bend; a special nephew, Robert Cobb III of Marina, CA; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death along with her parents and husband was a brother, Robert Cobb Jr.

 

Services for Mrs. Ivory will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, in Layman Chapel C.M.E. Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening in Alford's Mortuary to which arrangements have been entrusted.
