Jacqueline Jacobs

SOUTH BEND - Jacqueline "Jackie" Jacobs, 66, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, January 27, in her daughter's home in Mishawaka after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Jacobs was born April 23, 1940, in South Bend, and had resided in the Michiana area her lifetime.

 

On March 23, 1957, in South Bend, as Jacqueline Chwalek, she married George W. Jacobs, who preceded her in death on August 21, 1994. Jackie is survived by three daughters, Robin L. (Larry) Manzer of South Bend, Cynthia A. Jacobs of Mishawaka and Jennifer J. Jacobs of South Bend; two sons, George J. (Tammie) Jacobs of Elkhart and Joseph A. (Laural) Jacobs of South Bend; also surviving are 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished; and a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Caprous of Valparaiso. Also, three brothers-in-law, Gary Fritz, Sam Jacobs and Fred Milewski; and two sisters-in- law, Marlene Corey and Mickey Chalek. Jackie was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; a sister, Cathleen Fritz; and by a brother, Michael Chwalek.

 

Jackie retired from K-Mart after 36 years of service. She retired in August 2005 as office manager. She will be sadly missed by her loving family and all who knew her. Her co-workers were special to her. She loved reading, loved her employment with K-Mart, her family was always first, and she loved to cook. Jackie always said to be sure to mention her dog Tasha who was her 6th child. Tasha is 14 years old and was loved dearly by Jackie. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, January 30, in Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, in the funeral home, with Pastor John Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Jacobs family.
