Mary Janiak

Nov. 10, 1905 - Aug. 5, 1999

Mary Janiak, 93, of West Western Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died at 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1905, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On Sept. 29, 1926, as Mary Zielinski, she married Stanley J. Janiak, who preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1966. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Piechocki, who died on Dec. 18, 1987; a son, Stanley Janiak, Jr., who died on Nov. 13, 1975; and by several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary (Carl) Sinkiewicz of Merrillville, Ind., and Rita (Dan) Brown-Butterfield of Bonita, Calif.; a son, Leonard Janiak of South Bend; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Janiak of South Bend; and by a son-in-law, Eugene Piechocki of South Bend.

Mrs. Janiak was a member of the Rosary Society, Golden Cluster and Grandmothers Club, all of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the St. Adalbert Catholic Church Rosary Society, and the Westside Democratic Club.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
