Evelyn C. Janowiak, 80, of North Welling Street, South Bend, passed away at 7:22 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2005, in Hospice House. Evelyn was born on October 5, 1925, in Harrisburg, Pa., to George and Catherine (Wielgos) Orlowski. Both have preceded her in death.

 

On May 7, 1949, Evelyn married Raymond G. Janowiak, who also preceded her in death in 1998. Her children, Marcia (Joe) Kelly of South Bend, Jacqueline Booz of South Bend, Nancy (Rick) Bishop of South Bend and Michael (Cathy) Janowiak of Granger, survive her. One son, Raymond Gregory Jr., has preceded her in death. Her eight grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Jason, Alan, Nick, Kim, Greg and Adam, and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lauren, also survive Evelyn. Her brothers, Walter, John and Richard Orlowski, and sister, Victoria Przestwor, have all preceded her in death as well.

 

Evelyn worked as a sorting clerk for the South Bend Tribune for nine years and retired in 1990. She also worked at Bendix, Wilson Brothers, Sample Kit Co., and was an Avon representative. She belonged to Z.B. Falcons, Bowlers Country Club, PNA, and American Legion Post 357 Women's Auxiliary. She attended St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Catholic Church. She was politically active in the mayoral campaigns of the 1970s.

 

Visitation will be today, November 17, 2005, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, November 18, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Church. The family would like to thank Hospice House for their care and kindness.
