SOUTH BEND - Julia I. "Julie" Jaronik, 86, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, in Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton, IN. She was born on January 22, 1921, in South Bend, to the late John and Julia (Soltesz) Szilagyi, and was a lifelong area resident.

 

On August 30, 1947, as Julia I. Szilagyi, she married Chester C. Jaronik, who preceded her in death on September 17, 2001. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Tom Kovacs, and by a brother, Rudy Baba. Mrs. Jaronik is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Steve) Kovacs of South Bend; her son, Gary Jaronik of South Bend; two grandchildren, Christopher (Jodi) McKee of New York and Jeremy McKee of Colorado; and by her brother, William Szilagyi of South Bend. Julie worked for the University of Notre Dame for 17 years before retiring. She was a parishioner of the former St. Mary of the Assumption/St. Jude Catholic Church, South Bend.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Rosary will be recited at 4 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, in St. Jude Catholic Church, where friends may visit one-half hour before the Mass. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
