Raymond S. Jasicki

Raymond S. Jasicki, 75, of the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, formerly of Arrowhead Drive, passed away at 6:45am on Wednesday, October 13, in St Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr Jasicki was born on May 8, 1924, in South Bend, to John & Stella (Kaczmierzak) Jasicki and was a lifelong resident.  He retired in 1978 from The Associates, where he was a payroll clerk.  Mrs. Jasicki was preceded in death by his parents: a sister, Elsie Haldeman; and by a brother, Joseph Jasicki on March 25, 1963.

 

He is survived by a nephew, David J. Jasicki of South Bend and by several cousins.

 

Mr Jasicki was a member of St Hedwig Parish and was a lifetime member of the DAV.  He was a WW II Army veteran, serving in the 3rd Armored Division under General Rose.  He took part in battles in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.

 

On September 22, 1944, in Germany, he was injured in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart.  His other military decorations and citations were the European Theater Ribbon with four bronze stars, the Good Conduct Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Award and the Victory Medal-WW II.  He also received the Rifle Sharpshooter, Combat Infantryman Badge.

 

Services will be at 10am on Friday October 15 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive.  Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8pm today in the funeral home where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4pm. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
