Virginia Johnson

SOUTH BEND - Virginia Johnson, 67, departed this life on March 6, 2010, at 4:08 a.m. with her husband of 40 years, Firdia (Fred) Lee Johnson, at her side. Virginia, affectionately known to her friends and family as "Virgie," was born to the late Amos and Eleanor Townsend on August 10, 1942, in South Bend, Indiana. She will be deeply missed by her five daughters, Jacqueline Johnson, Marlene (Terry) Waddell, Varena Edwards, Solenia (Charles) Burnside and Virgie (Mark) Smith; and three sons, Firdia Johnson, Michael (Roxanne) Poole and Terry (Makisha) Johnson; along with 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She will also be cherished by her favorite cousin, Doris Hill; and her dearest friends, Earlene Key, Annie Daniels and Grace Broadway; and her second mom, Jennie Payton. Vergie was known for her love for her family and her generosity towards everyone she met. She especially loved celebrating her birthday. In her later years she loved to frequent with her extended family and travel during the holidays to visit with them. Her brother, Solomon Townsend, preceded her in death. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, in Faith Apostolic Ministries, 909 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may call one hour prior to services. The Clark O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
