Thomas Joseph Jozwiak

Thomas Joseph Jozwiak, 57, of Peachstone Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 8:30 a.m., Friday, in his home. Mr. Jozwiak was employed as a firefighter with the South Bend Fire Department. He was also employed in the service department for South Bend Coca-Cola for 30 years. He was born to Thaddeus and Leona (Radecki) Jozwiak on May 14, 1939, in South Bend, and remained a lifelong area resident.

 

On May 2, 1959, in Our Lady of Hungary Church, he married Susan A. Wamser, who survives. Also surviving is his mother, Leona Jozwiak of South Bend; a daughter, Cynthia Jozwiak, also of South Bend; three sons, Michael and Robert (Mary Ellen), both of South Bend and David of Terre Haute, Ind; a grandson, Michael Jozwiak; and a sister, Marianne (Robert) Grochowalski of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his father, Thaddeus R. Jozwiak, on July 18, 1996.

 

Services will be held at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 a.m., in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m., Monday, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, where members of the St. Casimir Married Men's Club will join the parish in reciting a rosary at 7 p.m., Monday. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph County Hospice, Inc.

 

Mr. Jozwiak was a member of the St. Casimir Catholic Church and the Holy Family Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Fire Department Local 362, ABC Bowling League, and the American Softball Association. He coached the St. Casimir basketball team and the Holy Family Girls Track Team and CYO. He received a medal for bravery from the City of South Bend in 1973. He was a 1957 Washington High School graduate.
