Esther A. Kaczmarek (July 18, 1918 - July 26, 2000)

Esther A. Kaczmarek, 82, of South Meade Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, July 26, in Saint Joseph's Regional Me-dical Center.

She was born on July 18, 1918, to the late John Smigielski and Anna Odynski. She retired from the former Flavorite Bakery after 27 years of service. As Esther Smigielski, she married Edwin J. Kaczmarek Sr. on Oct. 24, 1936. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1981. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Carol Kaczmarek on Aug. 19, 1975; a son, Thomas Kaczmarek on May 12, 1991; and by a brother, Ben Smigielski.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann (Richard "Big Rich") Karkiewicz of South Bend; three sons, Ronald (Marianne) Kaczmarek of South Bend, Dennis (Anna) Kaczmarek of Cassopolis, Mich., Edwin (Jalayne Cronk) Kaczmarek of South Bend; grandchildren, Georgianne Tafelski (Dan) Walker of Mishawaka, Ind., Kevin K. (Lori) Kaczmarek of Mishawaka, Kyle K. (Lisa) Kaczmarek of Mishawaka, Jill Kaczmarek of South Bend and Tim Kaczmarek of South Bend; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo Smigielski of South Bend; and by three sisters, Gloria Rzepnicki, Delores Farrington and Sylvia Jaro, all of South Bend.

Mrs. Kaczmarek was a member of St. Adalbert Parish, the Rosary Society, Sisters Auxiliary, Legion of Mary and Harvest House, and was also a member of St. Hedwig Civic Club, the West Side Democratic Club, and was a second cousin to Saint Sister Faustina.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, July 28, in the KANIEWSKI Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be held at 4 p.m.
