Mary S. Kambol

Mary S. Kambol, 69, of North Hill Street, South Bend, Ind., died after a lengthy illness with cancer at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in the Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Mary retired from Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center after 47 years as the secretary of the department of plant operations.

 

Mary was born May 29, 1932, in South Bend, to James and Julia M. (Rodino) Kambol, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Marie Kambol.

She is survived by her brother, Joseph (Deanna) Kambol of South Bend; three nephews, Dr. James J. (Catherine) Kambol of Vernon Hills, Ill., Michael A. (Tracy) Kambol of South Bend and William A. (Marni) Kambol of Lisle, Ill.; and by four great-nieces and one great-nephew.

 

Mary was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a graduate of St. Joseph Grade School and St. Joseph Academy, a member of the Altar-Rosary Society, was a Eucharistic minister for the homebound, Senior Legion of Mary, past president of the Junior Legion of Mary, Christ Child Society, Northern Indiana Center for the Blind, president of the 25 and over club of the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was also a member of the ABWA (American Business Women's Association) and its Cercle D'Amis Chapter where in 1968 Mary was Woman of the Year and in 1982 as Woman of the Year of the Southhold Chapter (ABWA).

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in St. Joseph Catholic Church (Hill and LaSalle Streets), South Bend. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 9, in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, 219/289-1000, where a prayer service will be held at 3 p.m.
