Rev. Clement E. Kane CSC, 84, of Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, died there at 9:40 a.m. Sunday. He was born Jan. 13, 1900 in Wisner, Neb. And attended public schools there. Before entering the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1925, he completed one year at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. He mad his first profession of vows in 1927, and final profession in 1930. Father Kane graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1931, studied theology at Holy Cross College, Washington, DC., and was ordained to the priesthood in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame in 1935.

 

Father Kane did post-graduate study in political science at Notre Dame, served at Sacred Heart Parish, New Orleans from 1935 to 1937, and taught political science and served as dormitory prefect from 1937-43 at the University of Portland. From 1943 to 1946 he served as chaplain in the Army, attaining the rank of captain. Following the war, he returned to teaching, first at the University of Portland from 1946 to 1952, also serving as prefect of discipline, and later at the University of Notre Dame from 1952 to 1959. From 1959 to 1963 he served in the Holy Cross Apostolate for preaching home or parish missions and the became chaplain at Rancho San Antonio, a home for delinquent boys in Chatsworth, Calif. He remained there until 1967, when he moved to Holy Cross House because of ill health.

 

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame with burial in Community Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. Monday at Moreau Seminary Chapel, Notre Dame, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.
