SOUTH BEND — Sister Mary Hope (Dorothy Frances Kane) CSC, 90, of Saint Mary's Convent, died Thursday in the convent.

 

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Sister Mary H. Kane (May 31, 1910 - Dec. 28, 2000)

Sister Mary Hope was born on May 31, 1910, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Michael Kane and Able Tracy Kane. She is survived by her niece, Linda Wilson of Kailua, Hawaii; a nephew, T. J. Walters of Upland, Calif., and a cousin, Charles "Bud" Murdock of Wilmette, Ill.

Sister Mary Hope entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in July 1931. She made her first vows on January 1934, and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1938. Sister was an elementary school teacher and taught in the Midwest at: Saint Vincent's School, Elkhart, Ind., Saint Joseph's School, South Bend, Saint Paul's School, Valparaiso, Ind., Saint Mary's School, Michigan City, Holy Cross School, South Bend and Queen of All Saint School, Michigan City from 1934 to 1945. Sister provided ancillary services to the Sisters of the Holy Cross at various locations from 1945 to 1974. After receiving training through the Upjohn Foundation and the American Red Cross, she was a home health care provider until 1989. As health needs required, she moved from Lourdes Convent to Rosary Convent and then to Saint Mary's Convent where she was active in the ministry of prayer and visiting the sick until her death.

Reception of the body will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind.

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind.

The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
