Mary Jo Kapusta (June 24, 1923 - Oct. 7, 2001)

Mary Jo Kapusta, 78, of Abbey Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away following a brief illness at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

She was born on June 24, 1923, to the late Deonisie and Elizabeth (Bojitia) Chirila in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Wilhelm; and by a stepson, Christopher Stephen Kapusta.

On Dec. 20, 1975, as Mary Jo Chirila, she married Stanley A. Kapusta in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, South Bend. He survives. She is also survived by her two daughters, Meredith Kapusta of South Bend and Karen (Hal) Hammaker of Boise, Idaho; her two sons, Bill (Barbara) Reasor and Kevin (Kathy) Reasor, both of South Bend; 13 grandchildren, Debra (Paul) Null of Goshen, Ind., Danielle (Steve) Papoi of South Bend, Dennis (Sherry) Kapusta Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., Debrielle Kapusta of South Bend, Matthew Kapusta of South Bend, Angel, Kimberly and Megan Hammaker, all of Boise, Bill (Jenny) Reasor of South Bend, Stephanie Reasor of Hamburg, Germany, Kyle, Lindsay, and Nathan Reasor, all of South Bend; five great-grandchildren, Christian Reasor of South Bend, Christopher and Caleb Kapusta of Charlotte, N.C., David Jones of Goshen and P.J. Null of Goshen; and by three sisters, Tracey (Paul) Ianigro of Elkhart, Ind., Rosalind (Rod) Bale of Dowagiac, Mich., and Rachel Cripe of Las Vegas, Nev.

Mrs. Kapusta belonged to Little Flower Parish, the University Club at Notre Dame and Elks Lodge No. 235.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. today, Oct. 9, in Little Flower Catholic Church. Cremation will follow, with entombment at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind., at a later date.

Friends may call from 4 to 5 p.m. today in Little Flower Catholic Church.

The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
