Joseph J. Katona

Joseph J. Katona, 69, of Dade City, Fla., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, in Hospice of Dade City. Mr. Katona retired in 1990 from the United States Postal Service where he was employed for 25 years as a letter carrier. He was born on June 5, 1930, in South Bend, to Joseph M. and Erma (VandeWalle) Katona, who both preceded him in death.

 

On June 26, 1970, in South Bend, he married Lillian Lundberg, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Joanne Raymond of Edwardsburg, Mich.; two sisters, Betty (Stanley) Turek and Marge Pietrzak, both of South Bend; two nieces, Sharon Grohowski of Indianapolis, Ind., and Janet (John) Stout of South Bend; and by three great-nieces, Lisa Grohowski of Indianapolis, and Jaime Stout and Jody Stout, both of South Bend.

 

Joe served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the NALC 330, Veteran of Foreign Wars 4283 of Dade City, the Moose Lodge of Dade City, DFV German Club of South Bend, and the BK Club of Mishawaka.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 10, in the ZAHORAN Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
