SOUTH BEND - Veronica Kazmierzak, 99, of Louisville, KY, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009, in Baptist Hospital East, Louisville, KY. Veronica was born on September 1, 1909, in South Bend, to Thomas and Mary (Wegner) Rzeszewski, and had lived most of her life in South Bend. She moved to Louisville, KY, in 1994 to be near family. Veronica retired from Holy Cross Convent, where she was employed as a cook. On September 16, 1930, as Veronica Rzeszewski, she married El J. Kazmierzak, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Kazmierzak. Survivors include one daughter, Marlene (Edward) Ruth; one daughter-in-law, Betsy Kazmierzak; one brother, Lenny (Louise) Rzeszewski; one sister-in-law, Mary Rzeszewski; seven grandchildren, Richard (Gwen) Ruth, David (Liz) Ruth, Kathleen (Rob) Franklin, Susan (David) Hannigan, Donna Kay Kazmierzak, Christine (Mike) Gideons and Michelle Kazmierzak; nine great-grandchildren, Jorden Ruth, Nathan, Aaron and Nicholas Franklin, Joseph Ruth, Alex Kazmierzak, Jared and Hunter Gideons, and Sam Hannigan; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Holy Cross Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Veronica was a former member of Holy Cross Parish and Altar Rosary Society.
