SOUTH BEND - Evelyn Knapp, 85, of South Bend, passed away at 3:45 A.M. Saturday, November 21, at Holy Cross Village Dujarie House after a brief illness. Evelyn was born January 10, 1924 in South Bend to George H. and Amelia V. (Keller) Kroger. On June 22, 1946 she married Frank J. Knapp in South Bend who passed away September 18, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Susan Knapp on May 14, 2002, her brother, George J. Kroger on July 6, 2009, and a grandson Michael Knapp a son-in-law Larry Aichele. Evelyn is survived by daughter Linda M. Aichele of South Bend; four sons, Frank G. (Darlene) Knapp of Long Valley, NJ, Edward A. (Martha) Knapp of Granger, John P. (Debra) Knapp of Concord, NC, James T. (Roxann) Knapp of South Bend. She also survived by 10 grandchildren, Kimberly, Scott, Andrew, Dante, Amy, Payton, Montana, Knute, Emily and Sarah, Two Great grandchildren Jaylen and Lilly. Evelyn graduated Valedictorian from St. Joseph's Academy where she was Senior Class President. She married her High School sweetheart upon his return from service in the United States Navy in World War II. She is a former member of Holy Cross Parish and was very active in the PTA and Rosary Altar Society of the church. Evelyn was a volunteer with Christ Child Society since 1961 and held numerous Board positions. She also volunteered at South Bend St. Joseph Medical Center Gift Shop and also held many positions and the Hospital Auxiliary Board. Volunteering was a large part of Evelyn's life as she was a very giving person. She will always be remembered as being a kind and compassionate person. Evelyn also worked at Service Merchandise Store where she was a Diamond Consultant for over ten years. Evelyn enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Donnell Lake. She was also a World traveler, taking many trips abroad and in the states with her family. Friends and Family may call on Monday, November 23rd from 3 to 7 pm in Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th St. Mishawaka. The rosary will be recited at 4 pm in the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday November 24, Noon in Christ the King Catholic Church South Bend with Rev. Neil Wack CSC will officiate. Friends may call one half hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Highland South Bend. The family would like to thank the staff at Dujarie House Quinn Wing for their care and love they showed Mom.
