Ruth Tubbs Knoblock

Ruth W. Tubbs Knoblock, 96, of Ridgedale Road, formerly of Cambridge Drive, South Bend, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2000, in Ironwood Health & Re-habilitation Center where she had resided since April 15, 1998.

 

Mrs. Tubbs-Knoblock retired in 1963 as a Comtomator at Studebaker Corp., and then was employed with Gerber Manufacturing Company as a computer operator. She was born July 3, 1903, in Urbana, Illinois, to the late Hugh B. & Magnolia (Jarret) Campbell, and had lived in South Bend most of her life, coming from northern Michigan. On December 24, 1923, in South Bend, as Ruth Campbell, she was married to Harold W. Tubbs, Sr. He died October 26, 1973.

 

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Martin William Tubbs in 1981; three sisters, Gladys Pratt, Mildred Tobey and Margaret Johnson; and a brother, Hugh Campbell, Jr.

 

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold W. (Bill) & Joan Tubbs of South Bend; a grandson, Dennis Gordon Tubbs of South Bend; and a great-granddaughter, Suzanne Tubbs of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; along with three nieces, Margaret (Don) Derby of Muskegon, Michigan, Leatrice (Ray) Stevens of Scottville, Michigan, and Virginia Tobey of Cincinnati, Ohio.

 

Mrs. Tubbs-Knoblock was a member and Past Worthy Matron of St. Joseph Chapter #569 Order of Eastern Star where she was a 50-year member, South Bend Shrine Club Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, member and Past President of Mary Ann Club of Studebaker Corp., and member of American Business Women's Association where she was elected the first Best Dressed Business Women in South Bend.

 

Services for Mrs. Tubbs-Knoblock will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, in Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, by members of St. Joseph Chapter 569, Order of Eastern Star, followed by Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor of Northway Church of Christ, officiating.

 

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from noon until 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home.
