Sister M. Ann Josephine Konvicka CSC, 76, of St. Mary’s Convent, died the Saturday morning. Born Aug. 23, 1912 in Cleveland as Virginia Marie Konvicka, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Feb. 4, 1936 after coming from Los Angeles. She was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1936 and made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1938. She graduated from Mount St. Mary’s Cvollege in Los Angeles in 1935, receiving a BA degree in chemistry and a minor in English. She obtained an MA in 1945 from the University of Utah, with a major in bacteriology and a minor in biology, followed by a PhD in 1958 with a major in bacteriology and paristology. She taught in the science department at St. Mary’s College, Wasatch in Salt Lake City from 1937 to 1958. Later she was assigned to Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City for work in research projects in the clinical laboratory from 1958 to 1964. She was then assingned to St. Mary’s Convent where she served until 1987, when she retired due to illness.

 

A mass of the Resurrection will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Loretto, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m Tuesday in the convent where a wake service will be at 7 p.m.
