Mary Kovacsics (April 3, 1914 - April 17, 2001)

Mary Kovacsics, 87, of S. Walnut Street, passed away at 11:47 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in her residence.

Mrs. Kovacsics was the co-owner of Prairie Hardware Store. Mary was a member of the D.F.V. German Club Ladies Auxiliary and the St. Mary of the Assumption Altar and Rosary Society. She was born on April 3, 1914, in South Bend, Ind., to Frank and Josephine Sailer. On Oct. 3, 1936, in South Bend, she married James "Amy" Kovacsics, who died on April 28, 1991. Mary was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Kovacsics; two brothers, Frank Sailer and John Sailer; and by a sister-in-law, Irene Kovacsics.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Kovacsics of South Bend; three grandchildren, Robert Klempay and Jo Anne (Klempay) Rodriquez, both of South Bend, and Thomas Klempay of the U.S. Coast Guard; and by five great-grandchildren, David, Dominick, Tony II, Kayla and Alexis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 20, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary of the Assumption Church Building Fund.
