SOUTH BEND - Evelyn B. Kovatch, 87, of South Bend, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, November 9, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility after an extended illness. Mrs. Kovatch was born on April 7, 1921, in South Bend, and had resided in the Michiana area her lifetime. On July 6, 1946, in South Bend, as Evelyn B. Jackowiak, she married Ernest E. Kovatch, who preceded her in death on January 25, 1991. Evelyn is survived by three daughters, Patricia Fraser and Alexandria Voreis, both of South Bend, and Mary Ellen Kovatch of Tucson, AZ. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Samantha Ann Fraser, Amy Louise Mercotte, Adam Ernest Fraser, Venessa Vahn Voreis and Winston Enos. Also five great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Cameron, Tara, Ryan and Samuel. Mrs. Kovatch was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, and by a son, Mike Kronewitter-Jordan. Evelyn was a homemaker who cherished her family and loved her grandchildren deeply. She loved sewing, crocheting, needle point, was an active fitness individual who always walked, loved music and loved to play the piano. She always worked at the polls during election time. She was also a member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, serving the Lord well. Mrs. Kovatch will be sadly missed by her loving family and all who had the opportunity to know her during her life journey.

 

Visitation hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, in Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 13, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Entombment to follow at Riverview Mausoleum. The family request NO FLOWERS and to make all memorial contributions in care of canned goods to be donated to the Northern Indiana Food Bank. You may bring can goods to the funeral home during visitation hours. Also, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., Ste. B-4, Indianapolis, IN 46209-7109.
