Florence A. Kowalewski: (South Bend Tribune 5/7/2006)

June 8, 1925 – May 5, 2006 Florence A. Kowalewski, 80, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2006, in her home with her family at her side. Florence was born on June 8, 1925, in South Bend, to Peter and Stella (Szulc) Cudowski. Her parents, two brothers, Eugene Cudowski and Irvin Cudowski, and a sister, Stella Sniadecki, have preceded her in death. On June 21, 1947, she married Raymond in South Bend. He survives along with four sons, Larry (Barbara) Kowalewski of Granger, Thomas (Janet) Kowalewski and Alan (Christine) Kowalewski, both of South Bend, and Terry Kowalewski of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Chris, Ray, Kevin, Ryan, Marcus, Amanda, Kristin, Patrick and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Jasper; five sisters, Regina Kubiak of South Bend, Helene (Robert) Wilcox of North Ridge, Calif., Lorraine Rozewicz of Portland, OR, Louise and Richard (Dawn) Reiner of Granger, and Mary Lou (Henry) Chrobot of Three Rivers, MI. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, a graduate of South Bend Catholic, a member of the Christ Child Society, St. Joseph Young Men's Society and Bowlers Country Club. She had an avid love for the Blue Chip Casino. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, and watching her grandchildren in their various activities. For over 40 years she was involved in bridge and euchre clubs. Another favorite endeavor was traveling and following her favorite sports teams. She retired from Masterbilt Inc., in 1991, where she was the secretary and treasurer for 30 years. Above all she was a devout Catholic, and was a very strong and dedicated family person. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Guardian Angels Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic School; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
