Edward W. Krause

South Bend – Service for Edward W. “Moose” Krause, 79, longtime athletic director and public figure at the University of Notre Dame, who died at 12:01 a.m. Friday in his home, will be at 10a.m. Tuesday, in Sacred Heart Basilica at Notre Dame. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the church.

 

Mr. Krause, of 1519 Marigold Way, was recruited by Knute Rockne to come to Notre Dame. He was a two-sport All-American, coached basketball and football and was the long time athletic director, before retiring in 1981. In 1976, he was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame.

 

Mr. Krause was born Feb. 2, 1313, in Chicago. On Aug. 27, 1937, in Chicago, he married Elizabeth “Elsie” Linden. She died Feb. 7, 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Carrigan of Glenvies, Ill.; two sons, Rev. Edward C. Krause, CSC, of Erie, Pa., and Philip C. of South Bend; five grandchildren; and a sister, Harriett Pier of LaGrange, Ill. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Notre Dame Moose Krause Scholarship Fund.
