Velma Grace Krause

Velma Grace Krause, 90, of South Bend, Ind., went to her new life on Tuesday, Feb. 6. She resided for many years at Fairington Apartments, and was a resident in the St. Joseph Care Center at the time of her death. She was born in Carmi, Ill., the daughter of Charles T. and Ethel G. Williams. She grew up in Tilton, Ill., and had lived in South Bend since she was 16.

 

In 1928, she married John B. Krause Sr. She was widowed in 1976. Velma is survived by her four sons, John B. Krause Jr. (Linda Benedict) of South Bend, Thomas L. Krause Sr. (Mary) of Shreveport, La., Charles T. "Ted" Krause (Gerry) of South Bend and Richard J. Krause Sr. (Joleen) of Elkhart, Ind. She is also survived by her many grandchildren: Michael Krause, Lori Ohnesorge, James Krause, Lisa Blackford, Christopher Krause, Jonathan Krause, Thomas Krause Jr., Joseph Krause, Kim Jinks, Cathy Hunter, Lynn Krause, Steven Krause, Beth Anne Hall, Richard Krause Jr., Rochelle Dibley, Robert Krause and Ronald Krause; a multitude of great-grandchildren; and by a former daughter-in-law, Jeannie Krause.

 

Velma took great pride in being a mother. She was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral since age 16, and was active in Harvest House and the Rosary Society for many years. She kept active correspondence with friends, old neighbors, and distant relatives. She was loved - and will be missed by - a multitude of people. A funeral Mass for Velma G. Krause will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb, 9, in St. Matthew Cathedral, with Bishop Joseph Crowley and Rev. Michael Heintz officiating. Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held today, Feb. 8, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, where a Rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. today. Donations in memory of Velma may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the Bishop Crowley Education Fund, 1015 East Dayton, South Bend, IN 46613.
