Marie Kroon, 82, of Harman Drive, Mishawaka, Ind., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, Nov. 8, in the Saint Joseph Medical Center. She was born Marie Sinke on May 12, 1918, in Moline, Mich., to the late Leonard and Rita Sinke. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Gertrude. Marie is survived by her devoted husband, James; three daughters, Ruth Kroon Sims of Aurora, Colo., Mary Brown of Niles, Mich., and son- in-law, Rick, and Marilyn of Kissimee, Fla.; two grandchildren, Christopher and Catherine of Niles; and by her siblings, Clara Nagel, Hilda Hendriksma, Gerard Sinke, Carl Sinke, Evelyn Balk and Marjorie Wielsma, all of Michigan. Marie was married to James Kroon on June 17, 1952, and after completing her education at Calvin College she then served as a teacher and principal for 29 years. She was teacher and founding principal at the Lafayette, Ind., Christian School and the Midland Christian School. After moving to Mishawaka she taught at the Brethren Christian School of Osceola, Ind. Her husband Jim taught for many years as professor of chemistry at Bethel College of Mishawaka. Marie loved the Lord and loved his church. She was very active at the South Bend Christian Reformed Church where she was a member for 31 years. She served as choir director, VBS teacher, adult Bible Study leader, deacon and elder. Her deep faith, intellectual curiosity, indomitable optimism, and loving support of her husband will be sorely missed.

Visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 10, in the South Bend Christian Reformed Church, 1855 North Hickory Road, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant Christian School and to the South Bend Christian Reformed Church Building Fund.
