George P. Kruyer

July 14, 1915 - May 25, 2002

George P. Kruyer, 86, of Concord Court, Mishawaka, formerly of N. Arthur Street, South Bend, died Saturday morning in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka. George was born July 14, 1915 in Plymouth to George Peter and Clara (Grater) Kruyer who preceded him in death and has lived in South Bend since 1923. George retired in 1982 as an office manager with Kaminski-Mooren Corporation after 32 years.

On April 7, 1945 in St. Joseph Church he married Frieda B. Weiss of Pontiac, Michigan. She survives along with 4 sons: John (Sharon) Kruyer of Gahanna, Ohio/ Richard (Brenda) Kruyer of Grand Blanc, Michigan/ Thomas (Kelley) Kruyer of Loveland, Ohio/ George "Pat" (Judy) Kruyer of Plymouth, In./ 9 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter, and a brother, Joseph F. (Irene) Kruyer of South Bend.

A brother Earl preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Friends may call 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson 289-1000 where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

George served with the US Corps of engineers from April 9, 1941 to May 1945. He was stationed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi and Camp Clayborn, Louisiana. And also in England, North Africa, Italy and France. He was a boy scout leader for 35 years and an usher at St. Joseph Parish since the age of 18. He was a member of VFW Post 1167/ graduate of South Bend Central High School and St. Joseph Grade School. Memorial may be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society or to the church.
