SOUTH BEND - Joseph W. Kuharic Sr., 80, of 57890 Crumstown Highway, died at 6:28 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mr. Kuharic retired in 1965 as a self-employed excavating contractor. He was born May 25, 1914, in Pribic, Croatia.

In South Bend, he married Josephine H. Prisaznik. She survives with a daughter, Christine Kuharic of South Bend; and two sons, Joseph M. Jr. and John R., both of South Bend; and two grandchildren.

He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6, Holy Family Catholic Church, and was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Hanley & Sons Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
