Wilbur Lacy, Sr.

Feb. 27, 1927 - April 2, 1998

Mr. Wilbur Lacy, Sr., 71, dear husband, father, grandfather and brother, who resided on East Altgeld Street, South Bend, Ind., departed this life following an extended illness on Thursday, April 2, at the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born to the union of the late John and Cora Lacy on Feb. 27, 1927, in Hope, Ark. On Dec. 27, 1947, in Hope, he was united in holy matrimony to Essie Porter. Mr. Lacy leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his memory his wife Essie; five daughters, Betty Love, Florence Renee Lacy, Yvette Lacy, Jackie Lacy and April Lacy, all of South Bend; five sons, Wilbur (Loretta) Lacy, Jr., John (Rose) Lacy and Edward (Barbara) Lacy, all of Hope, Ark., and Joe (Lori) Lacy and Wallace (Cheryl) Lacy, both of South Bend; 15 grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; a sister, Corlean Lacy of Denver, Colo.; a godson, Nylan Gammage of South Bend; along with a host of other relatives and friends. At the time of his death he was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, and was a former member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by the Bendix Corporation for nine years.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at St. Paul Bethel Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
