Sister M. Cecelia Lahiff CSC, 83, of Saint Mary’s Convent died at 2 a.m. today in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, after a lengthy illness. Born Ellen Geraldine Lahiff on Feb. 9, 1896 in Reising, Pa., she entered the Congregations of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Feb. 4, 1928, coming from Ascension Parish, New York City. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1928 and made her profession of vows on Aug. 30, 1930. She taught music at the elementary, secondary and college level at schools operated by the Sisters of Holy Cross in California, Utah and Idaho, before retiring to St. Mary’s Convent in 1969.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St Mary’s, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call at the St. Mary’s Convent parlors, where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
