Brother Clarence H. La Mere CSC

SOUTH BEND - Brother Clarence Henry La Mere, CSC, 85, of Dujarie House, Notre Dame, died Friday at the house.

 

Brother La Mere entered the Brothers of Holy Cross on July 1, 1929, made temporary profession on July 2, 1930, and pronounced final vows on July 2, 1933. He was born March 21, 1910, in Range, Wis. Surviving are two sisters, Ann Chouinard of New Brighton, Minn., and Helen Bernier of Panorama City, Calif.; and a brother, Clifford of Minneapolis.

 

He began his ministry at Holy Cross High School, New Orleans, and was assigned to the Ave Marie Press, Notre Dame, where he ministered for more than 20 years as an addressograph operator and canvasser. He served on the staff of Archbishop Hoban High School, Akron, Ohio, and Holy Cross High School, River Grove, Ill. In 1975, he took up residence at Notre Dame High School, Sherman Oaks, Calif., and worked in the office of the Family Rosary in Sherman Oaks. He came to Dujarie House a short time ago.

 

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Holy Cross Brothers Center. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Cemetery at the Brothers Center. Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. until services Tuesday in the center. Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, is in charge of arrangements.
