Millicent Laufmann

SOUTH BEND - Millicent Laufmann, 88, residing in South Bend, passed away at 1:14 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, in the emergency room of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. She was born March 30, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Michael and Karolin (Bodnar) Kuzniak, and had lived in South Bend for the past 35 years, coming from Chicago.

 

On August 11, 1935, in Waukegan, IL, as Millicent Kuzniak, she was united in marriage to Benjamin O. Laufmann, who passed away in 1960. Two sisters, Mary Yourst and Ann Blaint, and a brother, Stanley Kuzniak, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Laufmann retired in 1981 from the Milady Shop where she had worked in sales for 28 years. She was a member of the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, volunteered at LaPorte Hospital, was a member of the South Bend Progress Club, Howard Park Senior Citizens Bridge Club, Four Lakes Country Club Ladies 9-Hole League, and the Erskine and Studebaker Golf Courses Ladies Leagues. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, LaPorte, and the Business Girls in LaPorte.

 

Mrs. Laufmann is survived by her daughter, Beverly Johnson of Vandalia, MI; her son and daughter-in-law, Bernard H. and Nancy Laufmann of LaPorte; and six grandchildren, Lori (Dave) Chambers, Lisa (Scott) Smucker, Marilyn (Michael) Vance, Charles (Cindy) Johnson, Rick (Brenda) Johnson and Kristopher (Marie) Johnson. Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren, Brad and Nicole Chambers, Greg and Steven Smucker, Lyndsey, Ben and Daniel Vance, Valerie Johnson, Daniel Robertson, Kristopher Johnson II, Nikolet and Victoria Johnson, Traci and Dustin Johnson; and three great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexis and Alex Robinson.

 

Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to service time on Thursday in the funeral home.
