South Bend Tribune 8/6/1932

Sister Mary Suzanna CSC, for 50 years a member of the staff of the Ave Maria at Notre Dame, died Wednesday in St. Mary’s College infirmary, where she had been ill for two years. Her brother, Rev. Peter Lauth CSC, now deceased, was at one time pastor of St. Patrick’s Church in South Bend. Sister Mary Suzanna, whose name was Catherine Lauth, was born in Luxembourg, Germany. She was professed in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Aug. 15, 1875, and was immediately assigned to duty on the Ave Maria, which post she would keep through the years. Before modern typesetting machines were invented she set type by hand, read proof, and made the corrections. She has watched the various steps in the modernization of the publishing industry.

She comes from a religious family. Several brothers, now deceased were priests in the Holy Cross Congregation; two nephews, Rev. John Capesius and Rev. Andrew. Capesius are priests in the Benedictine order; her sister, Sister M. Boniface CSC, was formerly superior of St. Joseph Junior High, South Bend; and two nieces who are members of the Holy Cross congregation.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning. The requiem high mass was celebrated by her nephew, Father John Capesius.
