Delores Virginia Leichtman

Delores Virginia Leichtman, 79, residing on Eastgate Circle, Mishawaka, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2000, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. Mrs. Leichtman was born Feb. 15, 1921, in LaPorte, Ind., as the daughter of Henry and Laura (LaBoy) Pingel, and had been a lifelong resident of the South Bend-Mishawaka area.

 

On May 14, 1939, in South Bend, as Delores V. Pingel, she was married to Elmer B. Leichtman. He passed away Sept. 9, 1989.Mrs. Leichtman is survived by two daughters, Linda Kincaid of Mishawaka; Pamela Smith of LaPorte; five sons, Larry Leichtman of Phoenix, Ariz., Ron Leichtman of Granger, Edward Leichtman and Barry Leichtman, both of South Bend, and Kenneth Leichtman of Mishawaka. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, Jolie, Andrea, Lori, Joshua, Charles Thomas, Kyle, Jamie, Edward, Frederick, Mickie, Chrissie, Katie, Jamie and Brian; along with fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Clubb of Cleveland, Ohio; and two brothers, Howard Pingel of South Bend and Jack Pingel of Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Ryan Kincaid on Feb. 23, 1999; and by nine brothers and sisters.

 

Mrs. Leichtman retired as manager in 1978 from Meyers Hardware in South Bend where she was employed for more than 20 years. She was an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoyed bowling, needlepoint, crocheting, cooking and cleaning. She was a wonderful mother.

 

Memorial services for Delores V. Leichtman will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the Palmer Funeral Home. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Leichtman may be made to the American Lung Association, 319 South Main St., South Bend, IN 46601.
