Emiel Leon Lekens

April 28, 1884 - April 15, 1960

Emiel Leon Lekens, 76, of 607 1/2 W. 6th St., died at 2:30am today in St Joseph's Hospital following an illness of five weeks. 

He was born in Aaltre Belgium, and move here a year ago from South Bend, where he had lived for many years.  He married Alma Buysse, May 26, 1910, in Sacred Heart Church, South Bend.

Mr. Lekens was a retired employee of the Oliver Corp., South Bend.  Surviving are his widow; one son, Edmond R. Lekens, of Mishawaka; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Olejniczak, of New Haven CT, and Mrs. Don Thomas of South Bend; two sisters, Mrs. Julius DeMil, of Mishawaka and Mrs. John Kobue, of Canada and 11 grandchildren.  Friends may call afternoon Saturday in the DeVos Chapel.

Funeral Notes

Funeral services for Emiel Leon Lekens, 76, of 607 1/2 W. 6th St., who died Friday, will take place at 9am Monday in Sacred Heart Church, South Bend.  Very Rev., Msgr. Elmer Peterson, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Catholic Cemetery.  The rosary will be recited at 8pm Sunday in the DeVos Chapel where friends may call until the funeral hour. 

The pallbearers will be Arthur & Cyriel Van Heesbeke, Edmond Van Tornhout, Gerard & Raymond Pauwels and William Cerri.
