Sydney C. Lester Jr.

June 21, 1942 - Nov. 30, 2001

Sydney Carlton Lester Jr., "TT," 59, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother of South Meade Street, departed this life on Friday, Nov. 30, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

On June 21, 1942, Sydney Jr. was born to Mary Curry Powell and Sydney C. Lester Sr. In Denver, Colo. In 1967 he married Earnestine Mangum in South Bend, Ind.

Mr. Lester graduated from Central High School, and retired as a machinist from Allied Signal in 1998 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United Stated Army, having served in Vietnam and receiving the Purple Heart.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Earnestine; a daughter, Lisa Lester of Indianapolis, Ind.; four sons, Andre Lester of Beloit, Wis., Carl Lester of South Bend, Novell Lester of Muskegon, Mich., and Sydney (Midge) Lester III of Fort Worth, Texas; 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara (Reverend Tommie) Lee of South Bend; two brothers, Dewayne Powell of Elkhart, Ind., and Ronald Paul of South Bend; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Sylvester) Griffin of South Bend, Linda (Greg) Kelley of Lansing, Mich., Ann Cheatham of Gary, Ind., and Beverly Davis of South Bend; mother-in-law, Ann Watkins of South Bend; special aunts and uncle, Pearl (Reverend Albert) Dillard, Barbara J. Coger, all of Memphis, Tenn., and Douglas Adams of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Robert, Douglas and Lamarr; and by a sister, Marilyn.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 4, with a family visitation from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in ALFORD'S MORTUARY, where arrangements have been entrusted.
