Serafina Leyba

Serafina Leyba, 94, of Cardinal Nursing Center, formerly of Farrington Circle, South Bend, died at 4 p.m. Saturday at Cardinal Nursing Center, South Bend. Mrs. Leyba was born March 10, 1902, in Las Vegas, New Mexico and lived in South Bend for 11 years coming from New Mexico.

 

She was married June 15, 1921 in Las Vegas, New Mexico as Serafina Baca to Benedict Leyba who died on June 12, 1984. Mrs. Leyba is survived by a daughter, Bernice Cook and her husband, Raymond Cook of Elkhart and a son, Robert Leyba of South Bend, who is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9820. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Baca of Colorado Springs, Colo. Two sons preceded her in death, Benedict Leyba died June 12, 1994, and Ernest Leyba died Aug. 23, 1989.

 

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend.

Mrs. Leyba was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church of South Bend.
