MISHAWAKA - Catherine L. Leyes, 62, of Marion Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a lengthy illness at 6:40 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, in her residence.
Catherine was born in Mishawaka on June 20, 1935, to William and Etta (Irelan) Washburn. Both of her parents preceded her in death. On May 5, 1956, she married Thomas C. Leyes, who also preceded her in death.
Catherine is survived by three daughters, Lorraine (John) Bianco and Diane Leyes, both of Mishawaka, and Janet (Larry) Inghels of South Bend, Ind.; six grandchildren, Christine and Thomas Bianco of Mishawaka, Shane, Matthew, Janelle and Ashley Inghels, all of South Bend; two sisters, Marjorie Lewark of Mishawaka and Barbara Kapalczynski of South Bend; an aunt, Zoe Irelan of Mishawaka; and by a brother-in-law, John Leyes of Mishawaka.
Catherine had been working for the past 19 years at the G.L. Perry Variety Store in the Town and County Shopping Center. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 Women's Auxiliary.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Robert A. Yast officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
