Helen L. (Boxwell) Liggett, 85, of River Park, passed away following a brief illness in Regency Place, South Bend, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002. Helen was born on March 29, 1917, in New Harmony, Ind., the youngest child of Charles and Margaret (Bundy) Hurd, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Bessie Rigall; and by her brother, Maurice Hurd. Helen leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Josephine Witkowski and husband, Clifford, and Peggy Mahank and husband, Charles, both of Mishawaka, Ind.; her loving grandchildren, Craig (Loraine) Witkowski of Charlotte, N.C., Tracy (Howard) Meltzer of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Robert Mahank of Mishawaka, Rhonda (James) Hanchar of South Bend, Pamela (Anthony) Brown of Granger, Ind., David Witkowski of South Bend and Michele (William) Taylor of Mishawaka; 11 great-grandchildren, Brent Witkowski, Audrey Mahank, Christopher Mahank, Joseph Mahank, Samantha Brown, Mya Brown and Kayla Brown, Lauren Meltzer, Stephanie Meltzer, Stefanie Ford and Angela Ford. Helen retired from Cressy & Everett Realtors after serving as their first bookkeeper and office manager. She was a lifelong lover of reading, and also belonged to several card clubs, enjoying the companionship of her many friends.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. As per Helen's wishes, a private cremation and entombment will take place at a later date.
