Jimmie Hal Lindsey

July 19, 1948 - Nov. 7, 1998

Jimmie Hal Lindsey, 50, of North Huey Street, South Bend, Ind., departed this life following an illness on Saturday Nov. 7, at Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

He was born in Hope, Ark., on July 19, 1948, to Cross and Willie B. (Smith) Lindsey. The family moved to South Bend when Hal was three months old. Here he attended the South Bend Community Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1967. He attended college at Southwestern Michigan University of Findley at Findley, Ohio, and Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.

After returning to South Bend, Hal began employment with the South Bend Parks and Recreation Department where he was a faithful employee for the past 24 years.

He had many accomplishments and received many awards for his work in the community, one of which was the 1993 Man of the Year from Indiana University, South Bend.

Hal was a member of St. Peter's Masonic Lodge, and a board member of the Urban Youth Services Bureau and Martin Luther King, Jr., Foundation. His great love was the coaching, playing and refereeing of basketball and softball. He touched many lives on the court and softball diamond.

Hal leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his many precious memories his wife Beverly; a daughter, Jimeris, and a son, Jeremy. He is also survived by his parents, mother and stepfather, Willie and Billy Whisonant of South Bend; father and stepmother, Cross and Dessie Lindsey of Texarkana, Texas; a brother, Johnny Ray (Ida) Bivens of Indianapolis, Ind.; five sisters, Michelle and Wanda Whisonant of South Bend, Natalie (Steven) Brown of Kansas City, Mo., Darlene Jones of Indianapolis and Damita (Kelvin) Walton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; along with a host of other relatives and friends who loved him and will cherish his memory.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, at St. Paul Bethel Baptist Church, with visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Cobb Funeral Home, 3525 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Interment at Highland Cemetery.
