 Robert P. Lips, Sr.

July 4, 1923 – December 17, 2000

 Robert P. Lips, Sr., 77, faithful, devoted husband and loving father of Wheatfield Drive, South Bend IN, passed away on Sunday, December 17, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

 Mr. Lips was born on July 4, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Achiel and Marie (vanOverberghe) Lips. He was also preceded in death by a son, William “Billy” Lips in1971; and by a brother Joseph Lips in 1999.

 Mr. Lips was a South Bend police officer for over 20 years, and then was employed by Key Bank of South Bend after retiring from the Police Department. Mrs. Lips was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish, FOP Lodge #36, South Bend, and the Volkskring Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing cards with friends.

 On May 3, 1947, Robert married Esther Wroblewski, who survives. Surviving with his wife of 53 years are two daughters, Anne (Tony) Miller of Tucson AZ, and Janet (David) Ellenbogen of Greer, SC; three sons, Robert Lips, Jr. of Arlington VA; James Lips of Northlake IL, and Tim (Cathy) Lips of Greer SC; seven grandchildren, Marie Miller, Mallory Miller, Matthew Lips, Eric Haley Lips and Hannah Lips; a sister, Sena Ruszkowski of Mishawaka IN and several nieces and nephews.

 Friends may call from 4 to 8pm today, December 20, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a 5pm rosary will be recited.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Thursday, December 21, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with burial to follow at ST Joseph Cemetery.
