Anne Beatrice (Busko) Lobeck, 88, of South Bend, Ind., passed away quietly at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Anne was born in South Bend on March 15, 1914, to the late Michael and Mary Catherine Busko, and had lived in South Bend all her life. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Busko. She was married to John Hillman Lobeck on Sept. 9, 1939. He survives her. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine DeBroka of Mishawaka, Ind.; a brother, George "Bud" Busko of South Bend; two daughters, Joyce (Patrick) Strickler of Madison, Wis., and Jennifer (Gary) White of Granger, Ind.; a son, John (Vickie) Lobeck of Chassell, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, John P. Strickler of Summerville, S.C., Joseph R. Strickler of Tampa, Fla., Emily A. Olson of Bozeman, Mont., Lucy C. Judy of Madison, Wis., Peter T. Strickler of Denver, Colo., Mary R. Strickler of Milwaukee, Wis., Amanda White of Granger and Andrew White of Granger, John P. Lobeck of Chassell, Jodie L. Zuchowski of Blane, Minn., and Jeffery M. Lobeck of Chassell; and by five great-grandchildren.

Anne was a devoted wife and mother who maintained a lifelong love for her family, demonstrating that love in countless ways, from her curiosity in the events in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to the preparation of such specialties as her apple and blueberry slices that were always waiting for visiting family. She had many good friends, and Anne was a best friend to all her family. A fiercely independent woman, Anne had a deep interest in the world around her and coupled that with a wonderful sense of humor. She found pleasure in many of the simplest things of life, including her pets and her garden, and the hours spent quietly out fishing with her husband on Lake Cecelia in Michigan. She maintained that love of people and the world around her all the way to her peaceful passing, surrounded by her loving family.

A private memorial service has been scheduled for today, April 26, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, Ind. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
