Elizabeth Harden Low

Aug. 13, 1924 - Oct. 5, 2001

South Bend Tribune 10/8/2001

Elizabeth Harden Low, of South Bend passed away quietly in her home Friday evening October 5, 2001, losing her battle with lung cancer. Mrs. Low was born August. 13, 1924, in Greenwood, Indiana, to Jacob G. and Ruth Fogelsong. Mrs. Harden frightened by a baby mix-up in a Chicago hospital elected to have her first born at home, in spite of the fact that the hospital had only two beds in the maternity ward.

On February 23, 1946, as Elizabeth Eloise Harden she married James Norton Low, he died January 20, 1973. Mrs. Low was a teacher at St. Casimir's school from 1966 until after her husband's death in 1974. She then obtained her Realtor's license and was involved in Real Estate Sales until her sons became self supporting. She then joyfully left real estate behind and took a variety of safer, more interesting, less lucrative 9 to 5 jobs. On August 24, 1992, she retired from her position as Divisional Secretary for the Health Technologies Division of Indiana Vocational Technical College.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth F. Harden of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, James H. (Janie) of Warsaw, IN, Thomas S. (Stacy) of Serbastopol, Calif., and Robert N. of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren, James J., Sharon, Tracie, Jacob, Rebecca, Katie and Allison; and two great-grandchildren, Shelby and Emily.

For those friends wishing to celebrate her life funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2001, in St. James Episcopal Cathedral, with the very Rev. Frederick Mann officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral or to the American Cancer Society.
