SOUTH BEND - Richard L. Lowe, 84, residing in South Bend, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008, in Regency Place, South Bend. He was born January 7, 1924, in Peru, IN, to Clarence and Carmen (Kotterman) Lowe, and had lived in South Bend most of his life. On April 28, 1946, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Ruth I. Burget. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth of 62 years. Also surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Michael Babbitt of South Bend, IN, Susan and Kevin McNicholas of Holland, MI; six grandchildren, Ritchie Schlipp, Peter Schlipp, James Schmitt, Jennifer Hackett, Andrew Schmitt and Sarah Babbitt; along with 17 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Mendel Lowe of New Waverly, IN. Mr. Lowe retired in 1989 from Mid City Supply where he worked as a heating engineer for 20 years. Prior to that, he was employed at Michigan Plumbing & Heating in South Haven, MI. He continued working after retirement at Martin's Supermarket at Ironwood & SR 23. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII, and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses - Miami Trails.

 

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Contributions in memory of Richard L. Lowe may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses-Miami Trails, 18950 Roosevelt Road, South Bend, IN 46614.
