Essie Mae Lowery

SOUTH BEND - Essie Mae (Dorsey) Lowery, loving wife, mother and grandmother, ascended to our Heavenly Father at 5:35 p.m. in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on January 17th after a sudden illness. She was born in 1920 in Auburn, Alabama, to the late Essie and Girlie Morgan. She married Abraham Dorsey on December 7, 1940, who preceded her in death in 1966. From that union five children were born. She later married Aaron Lowery on December 26, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clemon, Charles and Eugene Morgan; one sister, Susie Allison; one son, Abraham Dorsey; and two daughters, Patricia Walters and Mary Riley. She is survived by her husband, Aaron Lowery; one daughter, Barbara (Leroy) Tolbert; one son, John (Valerie) Dorsey; two stepchildren, Wanda Lowery and David (Bobbie) Lowery; and one brother, Eddie Morgan, all of South Bend, Indiana; two sisters, Eileen Cosby, Flint, Michigan, and Betty Morgan, Indianapolis, Indiana; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. There will be no public viewing or services. A private ceremony will be held for the family at Clark O'Neal Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
