Services for Rev. James V. Lowery CSC, 68, of Holy Cross House, who died at 11:35 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Medical Center, will be at noon Wednesday in the St. Mary’s Campus Ministry Chapel at Stonehill College, North Easton, Mass. Burial will be in Holy Cross Fathers Cemetery, North Easton. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today in the St. Mary’s Campus Chapel, where a wake will be at 8 p.m.

 

Father Lowery was born June 16, 1916 in Sewickley, Pa. and was received as a novice and made his final vows of profession in 1936. He was ordained in the Order of Holy Cross in 1943 at Sacred Heart Church at Notre Dame. After studying at  Notre Dame from 1934 to 1939, he served with the Mission Band in South Easton, Mass. from 1943 to 1956. The next two years he was religious counselor and theology teacher at Stonehill College where he served as director of theology from 1958 to 1974. He then was associate pastor of St. John’s Catholic Church in Pocasset, Mass., and retired to the Holy Cross Missions House in North Dartmouth, Mass. In August 1984 he moved to St. Joseph Maner Nursing Home, North Easton, and came to South Bend on Jan. 19.
