Sister Miriam Kathryn CSC, 93, died on Saturday, Feb. 5, in Saint Mary's Convent, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind. Sister Miriam Kathryn (Mary Kathryn Lytle) was born on Oct. 2, 1906, to the late Louis L. and Ida Rose (Huber) Lytle in South Bend, Ind.

 

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind., on Aug. 18, 1936, from South Bend, and made her final profession in the congregation on Aug. 15, 1944. Sister Miriam Kathryn is survived by her sister-in-law, Henrietta Lytle of Mishawaka, Ind.; nieces, Mary Kathryn, Barbara, Bernadette and Miriam, and by a nephew, John Hart, all of Connecticut.

 

Sister Miriam Kathryn began her teaching career before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. After coming to Saint Mary's, she continued teaching English, Latin and Religion. She taught Latin to the novices and, in 1940, was teacher of English, Latin and Religion at Saint Mary's Academy. Sister was a woman of many talents and was asked to be controller in Saint John's Hickey Memorial Hospital, Anderson, Ind. She spent the next 21 years from 1946- 1967, in this position. In 1967, Sister was asked to be accountant and treasurer at Saint Mary's Convent until 1985. Sister Miriam Kathryn became a resident and then a patient in Saint Mary's Convent where she entered the Apostolate of Prayer. She moved to Our Lady of Holy Cross, Miami Road, South Bend, during the renovation of the convent. Sister returned to Saint Mary's Convent in 1995 and remained there until her death.

 

Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind.
