August C. Mahank, 80, of Harrison Road, Mishawaka, passed away at 4 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 1997, in his daughter's residence in Homestead, Fla., after an illness.

 

Mr. Mahank was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Mishawaka, Ind. He was employed by Wheelabrator-Frye Corp. for 22 years, retiring in 1984, and was a self-employed farmer for many years.

 

On Dec. 7, 1941, in Mishawaka, Ind., he married Vera M. Green. She survives along with a son, David Mahank of Mishawaka, and one daughter, Laura Malling of Homestead; five grandchildren, Shannon Mahank Malling, Jennifer Mercedes Bybee, Trisha Meredith Malling, Adam Kyle Mahank, Shelby Anne Mahank; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Malling, Rachel Lynnanne Malling, Kaylee Lynn Bybee and Lyman Lee Bybee; two sisters, Rose Vander Hayden of Mishawaka and Mary Mahank-Barnes of South Bend; and one brother, Dr. Camiel Mahank of South Bend. One brother, Charles Mahank, preceded him in death.

 

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday April 1, in First English Lutheran Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Kevin McNulty officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 31, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Family Worship Center, Homestead, Fla.
