Vera M. Mahank

Vera M. Mahank, 83, of Homestead, FL formerly of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully Tuesday February 19th in her daughter's home. Mrs. Mahank lived in Homestead, FL for the past five years

 

Vera was born on April 23, 1918 in Oswego, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Melvin L. and Anna I. (Davidson) Green.

 

On December 7, 1941 as Vera Green, she married August C. Mahank, in Mishawaka. August preceded her in death on March 27, 1997, after 56 years of marriage.

 

Vera is survived by a daughter, Laura A. Malling and her husband Mark of Homestead, FL; a son David A. Mahank and his wife Michelle of Largo FL; five grandchildren, Shannon M. Malling, Jennifer M. Bybee, Trisha M, Malling, Adam K. Mahank and Shelby A. Mahank; four great-grandchildren, Ashley L. Malling, Rachel L. Malling, Kaylee L. Bybee and Lyman L. Bybee; three sisters, Yeavon Nifong of Elkhart, Beatrice Schroeder of Mishawaka, and Enid Maddock of New Concord, OH; three brothers, Gerald "Jerry" Green and Leslie "Dale" Green both of Mishawaka, Noel "Dennis" Green of Osceola. Two sisters preceded Vera in death, Phyllis Blevins and Antoinette "Toni" Espelage.

 

Vera was a lifetime resident of the area prior to moving to Florida. She was a graduate of the 1936 class of Mishawaka High School. She was employed by Bonnie Doons, Bendix Corp. and the South Bend Tribune. She was a member of Calvary Temple in South Bend and the AARP. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother, loving grandmother and cherished great grandmother. Always thoughtful, kind and lending a hand to those in need.

 

Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday February 24 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday February 25 in Calvary Temple where there will be a one-hour visitation at the church prior to the service with Arthur Espelage officiating.

 

Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
